Stay and Play:
This
is a FREE drop-in program for parents, grand-parents, and
caregivers of children aged 0 to 6. It is currently
offered Tuesday and Thursday of each month, including summer, from
9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
In
addition to monthly themes, the program also hosts several special
events, including Halloween, Valentines, and Christmas parties. A
graduation/end of summer party is also hosted for children going in to
grade 1.

Home Alone Safety Program:
Home
Alone Safety Program, a readiness program to better prepare your
children to be alone before and after school. Modeled after successful
programs in other municipalities, the program is geared towards
children aged 10-12+. A variety of fun and interactive activities and
discussion will teach your child basic safety rules and help build
their self-confidence, sense of responsibility and decision-making
abilities. We will host our next Home Alone course early May, 2012.

Red Cross Baby Sitting Course:
Periodically, the Old Millbrook School Family Centre will host a Red Cross baby sitting course. Participants Learn…
• How to care for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and school-age children
• Strategies to create a safe and positive environment and prevent injuries
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills to handle emergencies and give first aid
• Age-appropriate activities and games
• Communication and basic business skills
The
cost for this course is $46.00 (all funds support Red Cross).
Participants must be between 11 and 15 years of age. Each participant
receives: full colour manual, course completion card, wall certificate,
and the training (includes approximately 2 hours of
NON-CERTIFICATION CPR Level C).

Lactation Consultation:
Free
consultation with Melisande Neal (I.B.C.L.C., Registered Lactation
Consultant). Learn how to prevent and solve breastfeeding problems. Mel
will be at the Family Centre every 2nd Tuesday of each month between
10:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Music and Movement:
In partnership with the Live Healthy, Live Well project, the
Family Centre will host a series of "movement, dance, and yoga" classes
under the tutelage of Janette Winslow. The program is open to boys and
girls under the age of six and their parents/caregivers. Sign up for
some fun as your child/children explore dance, yoga and musical
instruments in a playful, supportive , creative space.
Classes
will be held on Mondays between 10:00 am and 11:00 am at the Old
Millbrook School in the Dorothy Stevens Room January 9th, 16th, 23rd,
and 30th and February 6th and 13th, 2012. Registration is limited.

From time to time, we will host workshops covering
a wide range of topics (e.g., growth and development of children,
parenting challenges). Please check back regularly to find out more

"Meal Planning and Meals on a Budget" - Thursday, November 3rd, 2011
"Making Meals Your Toddler will Love" - Tuesday, November 15th, 2011
"Vegetarian Meals" - Thursday, December 1st, 2011
The
workshops are being organized by the Peterborough County City Health
Unit (PCCHU) and delivered by Mary Daly (R.D.), Public Health
Nutritionist, Nutrition Promotion, PCCHU.
All workshops will
be held at the Old Millbrook School Family Centre between 10:00 am and
