For the last two months, Amanda Suurd has been a valuable part of the Educator Team here. Next Thursday November 15th will be Amanda's last day at The Old Millbrook School EarlyON Child and Family Centre.
Although we are going to miss her, we know she will be back in often as a parent bringing her children.
Please feel free to stop in next Thursday and wish Amanda all the best!

In the spring of 2018, parents and caregivers visiting The Old Millbrook School EarlyON Child and Family Centre were asked to complete an Early Years Parent Satisfaction Survey.  The results from the survey allowed us to learn what families enjoyed about the Child and Family Centre and where there was room for us to grow and set goals.

We wanted to share what goals we will be focusing on for 2019.

·       Building relationships; We will continue to work towards establishing positive, responsive relationships with children and their families as we understand that learning cannot happen in the absence of quality relationships.

·       Communication; We recognize that change can be challenging and we will continue to work towards sharing information and key messages to families on an ongoing basis in a variety of ways.  We will also continue to welcome feedback and ideas from all families.

·       Documentation; We will continue efforts to make learning visible for parents through a variety of documentation strategies.  Our hope is to support a better understanding of “How Does Learning Happen” and the way it is utilized within The EarlyON Child and Family Centre.

Thank you for working with The Old Millbrook School EarlyON Child and Family Centre Educator Team to create quality programs.

If you have any questions at all, please let us know.

Supporting Parents in an Ongoing Understanding and Exploration of Loose Parts
As part of our ongoing commitment to offering families high quality early learning opportunities, The Old Millbrook School EarlyON Child and Family Centre has begun introducing ‘loose parts’ into our learning environment. Loose parts are items and materials that children can use to enhance their play and exploration. They provide a high level of creativity and choice and the possibilities are endless for how they can be used. Research shows that children like to play with loose parts because they can use their imagination and have greater control in their play.
We invite parents and caregivers to attend this Parent Info Session to learn more about the use of loose parts and ask any questions they may have.

A word from Nancy, OMSFC's Centre Administrator!

The OMSFC Board is pleased to welcome our new Centre Administrator, Nancy Hurley.  Some of you may have already met Nancy at Stay n' Play, and we're looking forward to all of the enthusiasm Nancy is bringing to this new role!  Here's a bit about Nancy, in her own words:

Nancy Hurley, OMSFC's Centre Administrator

Let me introduce myself, my name is Nancy Hurley and I am very excited to be starting a new adventure here at the Old Millbrook School EarlyON Centre.  Over the next months, I am sure I will be meeting so many of you as you visit the Centre with your children, grandchildren, etc.  Before you stop in, maybe you're wondering about who I am?

I was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario where I worked for over seventeen years in the Early Learning and Care Community up until this past December.  I moved up this way six years ago and I love the area.  My family and I live within an hour of Millbrook with our two dogs and the dogs that we foster through a local Animal Rescue Organization.  I am passionate about the Early Years and I truly believe in the value in our youngest citizens.

Millbrook is a wonderful community and I am looking forward to getting to know the people who make it so special.  It is an exciting time at the Centre!   In the coming months, the EarlyOn Centre will be growing veggies in the Community Garden, expanding program hours to offer families a place to stop in on Sundays, and Picnics in the Park from time to time.
Come by any time and you will be met with a smile.  I can't wait to see you!

Nancy Hurley
Centre Administrator

Thank you Moyra!

We loved this article in the Millbrook Times about the amazing Moyra, the backbone of the Family Centre for the past 15 years!

Please follow the link below to read the whole article on the Millbrook Times website:

Moyra has been a pillar in the lives of our Township's smallest residents, and their caregivers, for 15 years.  From offering wisdom, insight, advice, or just a shoulder to cry on and a hug, Moyra has made a positive difference in hundreds of local lives.  Thank you Moyra!!

What's New at the Family Centre? Lots!!

The Old Millbrook School Family Centre (OMSFC) has been buzzing with excitement for the last several months, since learning that we have secured funding under the new EarlyON programming. This funding, that is redirected to us through the City of Peterborough, has put our Family Centre in a position of offering more services for our community.
While the OMSFC Board of Directors is still sorting through all of the changes and establishing what our future will look like exactly, our community should know that there will be a significant increase in the number of free services we provide in our village, and the frequency of these programs.
For the last 17 years OMSFC has offered a drop in, Stay n Play program from our centre, every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30am-1:00 pm. Those programs will remain moving forward and in the very near future, OMSFC will announce the addition of programming every Sunday.  This program is envisioned to be similar in structure to our current programming, and will hopefully make our services more accessible to local families.
Under the obligation of our new funding OMSFC is required to offer programming five days per week. The Board of Directors is enthusiastically working towards meeting that requirement, armed with the knowledge that we can serve our youngest community members in ways never imagined.
The physical space that OMSFC occupies at 1 Dufferin St. will be undergoing some updating and improving as well. During these changes and improvements, the centre will be open and operating our regular programming. If you wish to stay current on the changes to our space and programming, please feel free to join us on Facebook at
